Grover Gordon Railey, 82, died at 8:15 a.m. Thursday Aug. 20, 2009, at his residence.

Born May 21, 1927, in Union Co., Ky., to Grover Cleveland and Pheba Elizabeth (Wade) Railey, he married Norma Reynolds in July of 1947 in Morganfield, Ky. He later married Francis Yvonna Golden July 7, 1975, in Shawneetown.

She preceded him in death March 27, 2000.

Surviving are his five children, John (Diane) Railey of Washington, Jack (Nancy) Railey of Pekin, Edmund (Sue) Railey of Morton, Starla (Terry) Berkley of Marquette Heights, and Teri (Charles) Pratt of Minonk and Randy Railey of Lostant; two step-children, Ralph (Mary) Brownlee of Creve Coeur, and Donna Zeglen of Puyallup, Wash.; his sister, Ebadean Overton of Washington; 16 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jay Dee Railey; one grandson, Terry Joe Berkley; and three brothers, Wade, Eldon and Kenneth Railey.

He worked as a tool room clerk at Caterpillar Inc. until his retirement after 35 years, and was a member of the UAW 974.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria. The Rev. Steve Hauter will officiate. Burial will follow at Fondulac Cemetery. A visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday also at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
