  • The City of East Peoria will conduct its Fall Clean-up Week Oct. 1-5. This special collection is open only to residents whose garbage is picked up by the City of East Peoria. Additionally, junk may be set out only at residences that are occupied. Properties that are zoned commercial, business or multi-family are not included in the clean-up week.
    Junk and garbage must be separated and placed behind the curb in the approximate location of the regular household refuse. Items cannot be set out until the weekend prior to clean-up week, and must be at the curb no later than 5 a.m. on the regular garbage day. If it is not picked up on the regular day, it will be collected the next day.
    Accepted are furniture, mattresses and otherhousehold items, tree limbs and brush. Tree limbs must be stacked with the ends facing the curb. Nothing over 3 inches in diameter or longer than 4 feet will be accepted. Leaves and grass clippings are not included.
    Items not accepted are TVs, computers, small electronics, tires, white goods, water heaters, water softeners, construction and remodeling materials such as shingles, siding, windows, wood, wallboard or tile; landscape waste, and hazardous waste such as paint, pesticides, gasoline and motor oil.
    Residents should contact TNT Recycling, 635-4642, for proper disposal of washers, dryers and other appliances.
    Due to Environmental Protection Agency regulations, electronics must be disposed of by a licensed recycler. Waste Management in East Peoria will accept electronics at no charge. For more information, call 694-0295.
    Tires cannot be set out during clean-up week. East Peoria Tire & Vulcanizing Co., 2801 N. Main St., will allow residents to drop off tires for a fee. Tires must be free of water and dirt and off the rim.
