State Rep. Mike Unes (R-East Peoria) said he felt pretty good at the beginning of the night at Embassy Suites Tuesday in East Peoria. By the end of the night he felt even better when he was re-elected for two more years in the 91st District.
Many East Peorians were on hand to celebrate with Unes at the Tazewell and Peoria County Republican election party. Pat Sullivan, R-Peoria, who was running against Dave Koehler for State Senate, was also at the Embassy Suites party. Koehler was re-elected to that position.
Also in attendance at Embassy Suites were Tazewell County Sheriff Robert Huston and Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis.
Toward the end of the evening Unes gave a speech with his family standing by his side on stage.
"I'm very proud of this and I'm very proud of all the campaigns that I've run, and isn't it so gratifying to know that the truth still matters? And isn't it gratifying to know that good old fashioned work is still recognized and still counts? You see when you're in this for all the right reasons, when you're in this truly to make a difference with no preconceived notions truly to effect positive change it's a whole lot easier to run on your record instead of running from your record," Unes said.
