  • These are the kind of games that will help the East Peoria girls basketball team make a big improvement this season.
The Raiders outscored Metamora 31-24 in the second half Friday to pull out a 47-46 Mid-Illini Conference home victory.
East Peoria (4-5, 1-1) evened its league mark and pulled within one win of last year’s overall total.
Raiders Nicole Montgomery and Kylie Giebelhausen combined for 30 points at Allison Gymnasium against the struggling Redbirds.
Montgomery netted a team-high 16 points, while Giebelhausen contributed 14.
East Peoria was down 22-16 at halftime after a Redbird 13-6 margin in the second quarter.
Courtney Potendyk scored six points, Michaela Reedy five and Ally Watson four for the Raiders.
The hosts overcame 1-of-10 free-throw shooting to stop a brief losing skid at two games.
Kyler Samp’s game-best 21 points nearly lifted Metamora to a win one week after a blowout loss vs. Canton.
East Peoria was scheduled to take on the surging Lady Giants, who started 8-1, in a Tuesday night clash in Fulton County.
