EAST PEORIA – The downtown development now has an official name. The Levee District has been selected as the winning entry in a contest to name the development. Submitted by East Peorian Don Taylor, The Levee District was selected from the 264 entries received. The Levee District will feature a new Fondulac District Library, civic plaza, Holiday Inn hotel, Target and other stores, a MCB/Hometown Bank multi-story office building, additional office and retail areas and multi-residential buildings. Costco, also part of the development, opened in November, and Target is slated to open in March. A logo has been created for The Levee District and it will be featured on signs soon to be installed along roadways, sidewalks and the pedestrian promenade. Taylor will be honored at the Jan. 15 East Peoria City Council meeting.
