PEORIA — Ronald W. Allgaier, 63, of Peoria, formerly of East Peoria, died at 6:54 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Heartland Healthcare Center in Peoria.
PEORIA — Ronald W. Allgaier, 63, of Peoria, formerly of East Peoria, died at 6:54 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Heartland Healthcare Center in Peoria. Born Feb. 28, 1949, in Peoria to Theodore J. and Marian D. Wilmeth Allgaier, he married Linda J. Simmons Jan. 23, 1971, in Bartonville. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2008. He later married Carolyn Brown on Feb. 18, 2012, in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are his son, Ryan P. Allgaier of East Peoria; his daughter, Jennifer L. Allgaier of Indianapolis, Ind.; his stepson, Dr. John E. Keller of Henderson, Nev.; and his sister, Barbara L. Aper of Bartonville. He was preceded in death by his parents. He graduated from Illinois Central College in 1969. He then attended Bradley University where he played in the Jazz Band. After college he started working for Caterpillar Inc. in Morton. He worked at CAT for 40 years, his final position being a packaging analyst. He was a very active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria, where he took joy serving the Lord as an elder, liturgist, Sunday school teacher, trumpeter and choir member. He honored many area veterans by playing Taps for their funeral services for the past 50 years. Along with playing for our troops, he would play yearly at Veterans Day and Memorial Day ceremonies in Peoria and around the area. In 2012, the City of Peoria officially named Aug. 9 as Ron Allgaier Day. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria. The Rev. Joe Meyer will be officiating. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at the church. There was an additional visitation an hour before the service. Burial will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
