    The boys basketball teams’ sixth meeting in the Raiders’ eight seasons in the event ended in a 57-22 Terriers’ first-round victory Dec. 28.
    The start of the 49th annual tournament was delayed by one day due to heavy snowfall in the area.
    East Peoria played shorthanded in game one, causing five players to log at least 25 minutes.
    Ryan Slusher led the Raiders with seven points and seven rebounds.
    Sean Mulhern added six points for East Peoria, which was limited to 24 percent field-goal shooting.
    Devontavius Payne paced Carbondale with 13 points.
    Hazelwood (Mo.) West 51, EP 32
    The Wildcats held the Raiders to 12 first-half points Dec. 29 in a consolation-round win.
    A trio of East Peoria players — Mulhern, Mitch Gnehm and Karson Buckley — shared team scoring honors with nine points.
    Buckley and Mulhern combined for 13 rebounds, while Gnehm sank three 3-pointers.
    Benett Crim distributed three assists, while Mulhern made three steals.
    Will Donnegan topped Hazelwood West with 14 points.
    Later that day, the Raiders lost their tournament finale, 65-25, to Bartlett (Tenn.).
    Edwardsville won the championship Dec. 30 over Memphis (Tenn.) University, 61-44.
    East Peoria now is 10-17 all-time at Carbondale.

    The host Raiders outlasted the visiting Raiders Saturday in Manito.
    East Peoria (1-12), despite considerable foul trouble, narrowly missed its second win of the season.
    Three scorers in double figures ignited the Raiders.
    Mulhern led East Peoria with 16 points.
    Karson Buckley had 14 points after sinking two 3s like Mulhern. Crim recorded 11.
    Slusher also chipped in eight points for the Raiders, Michael Thompson six and Kieran Buckley five.
    The Midwest Central combination of Chance Meyer and Jarrett Dean had 35 points.
    League play resumes: The Raiders play their first Mid-Illini Conference game in three weeks Friday when they welcome Pekin to Allison Gymnasium.
