  • Do you enjoy working with your hands or working with computers? Are you interested in machining anything from nuts and bolts to heavy construction equipment? If so, you can find out more about these skills and other manufacturing career opportunities in Illinois Central College’s free, nine-week “bridge” class this spring. Participants will discover how manufacturing is alive and well in both large and small companies in Central Illinois and how this career fits with their individual skills and interests. Students will learn how to improve the skills manufacturing employers demand in English, math, reading, computer science, and social sciences. Guest speakers from manufacturing, as well as tours of local companies will give students a real world view of the career field. Classes meet Feb. 11 through April 11, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m.-noon, at the ICC South Campus, 225 Hanna Drive, in Pekin. In order to qualify for the program, applicants should have a high school diploma or be working toward obtaining their GED and express an interest in a manufacturing career. All applicants will be required to take a reading placement test. The deadline for scheduling a reading placement test is Feb. 5. For questions regarding the program and eligibility requirements, or to schedule a reading placement test, contact Christina Constantinidou at 690-6863.
