Nicole Montgomery's athletic career will continue in the city she currently plays.
The East Peoria Community High School senior declared she will attend Illinois Central College and play softball for the Cougars.
"I really like the coaching staff and everything they bring to the table," said Montgomery, who added ICC's discussion about education was important to her.
ICC, with which Montgomery has a lot of familiarity, separated itself when it came time to make a decision.
"It was pretty easy. I've known for a while," Montgomery said.
Montgomery has known Cougar head coach Heather Doty for years and also has attended several camps sponsored by the school.
Montgomery, a travel softball player since she was 8 years old, said she has played the sport she could walk.
To step up to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II level, Montgomery intends to work on her hitting and framing pitches from her catching position.
She mentioned she hopes to get early playing opportunities for Doty, who is 185-136 in her first six seasons.
