A small power outage the afternoon Feb. 5 in East Peoria was due to a cut power line underground. East Peoria Public Works Director Steve Ferguson said the power outage happened about noon and only affected Long John Silver's and a three-story office building. Ferguson said city workers were digging to repair a sanitary sewer line in a utility easement when the struck the line. "The power is put underground and my understanding of the situation is that it was marked out at the curb but not where we were digging and we dug through it with our tractor," Ferguson said. AmerenCILCO repaired the line immediately. "I think it was only like an hour," Ferguson said. "I think they (Ameren) came out and restored it right away." Ferguson added, "The underground is very crowded and coordinating these things is very difficult. Sometimes you hit other things no matter how much marking is done and that was the case."
