East Peoria led for a quarter Saturday until a Limestone boys basketball onslaught in the second period.
The Raiders lost the Mid-Illini Conference game, 71-41, after the Rockets used a 29-4 second-quarter surge to lead by 23 points at halftime.
It was the second East Peoria (2-19, 1-10) loss to Limestone this season after not seeing the Rockets since the Nov. 20 opener.
Sean Mulhern and Jakob Burtis shared the Raiders’ team honors with nine points apiece.
Karson Buckley and Kieran Buckley both provided six points for East Peoria, which was ahead 13-11 through eight minutes.
Three Limestone players were in double figures, led by Terence Shelby’s 19 points, 14 of which came in the second quarter.
The Rockets have won four M-I games in a row. The Raiders have lost four straight in the league.
East Peoria remained tied for seventh place in the conference with Morton, which lost the previous night vs. Washington.
Postseason: East Peoria is a No. 4 seed in its own Class 3A regional.
The Raiders will face fifth-seeded Morton (3-20) at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25 in the quarterfinals.
Since the two M-I foes meet on Morton’s Senior Night Feb. 22, they will play each other in consecutive games.
No. 1 seed Washington awaits the winner at 6 p.m. Feb. 26 in the semifinals.
Limestone and Manual meet in the other semifinal the same night.
The regional championship game takes place at 7:30 p.m. March 1.
