1924 - 2017

Nola Jean XL. Berger, 93, of Pekin, passed away at 3:54 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2017, at Hallmark House Nursing Center.

Nola Jean was born Feb. 15, 1924, in Pekin to Charles and Lillian Heisel Brooking. She married Richard Eugene Berger June 22, 1947, in Pekin. He passed away Feb. 6, 2013.

Also preceding in death were her parents and two brothers, C. Melvin Brooking and Robert D. Brooking.

Surviving are one son, Mark (Pam) Berger of Pekin; one daughter, Kathy Berger of Peoria; four grandchildren, Jordan (Mike) Berger-Statten of Vancouver, British Columbia, Emily Berger of Los Angeles, Calif., Amy (Mike) Manwaring of Germantown Hills and Keri (Chris) Cassady of Gilmer, Texas; and six great-grandchildren.

Nola Jean was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, making crafts and loved spoiling her grandchildren. She was an office assistant for Drs. Wherry, Werner, Heldon and Colson for over 25 years.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory in Pekin, with the Rev. Daniel Bishop officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service Tuesday.

Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens.
