I was reading that the last WWI Veteran passed away recently. It’s hard to believe sometimes that entire generations and their history are just gone one day.
Unfortunately, working at a retirement home, I am faced with loss more often that I would like. A gentleman that I had the privilege to know passed away last week. I have gotten to know him and his wife over the six years I have worked for Snyder Village.
When I first started my job, he would come in and chat with my boss and myself about our fundraisers and give us some good ideas. He was also very active with the Romeos group (Retired Old Men Eating Out) which is a social group at Snyder Village for the men.
Ed was always coming up with good ideas about places to visit and dine. He loved to give me a hard time, telling me I needed to dress up more. He said that in his time, women wore dresses and skirts and heels to the workplace. He always had a chuckle and a smile to go along with it.
Ed was also very active with the Boy Scouts over the years and he volunteered with many different organizations. He always had great stories and a big laugh.
Ed was just one of the really unique and good-hearted people I have met at Snyder Village. He will be missed.
Shannon Eagle is the Marketing and Development Assistant at Snyder Village in Metamora, IL. "I have a passion for writing and enjoy working with the diverse group of people at Snyder Village. I chose this topic because I work every day with people of all ages. Working with the independent retirement residents are like having grandparents looking after me all day long," Eagle said.
