Do you ever have one of those weekends where you feel sorry for yourself, sit on the couch and watch sappy Hallmark channel movies all day while you completely ignore the rest of the world? Yeah, me too. Let’s call it the “I am a grown-up and if I don’t want to do anything, I don’t HAVE to!” syndrome. Well, it hit me big-time this weekend.
The only problem with this syndrome is that all the grown-up chores and to-do lists are still waiting for me. They don’t seem to take the hint that I am NOT in the mood to get them done! And when I finally feel better and reluctantly decide it’s time to get back to being a grown-up, the list of to-do’s and the chores have not only ceased to disappear, they have actually multiplied!! Exponentially! Where is my Fairy God-Mother? Heck, I will settle for a cleaning lady? A maintenance man? Are you sure I have to be 55 to move to a retirement community where they take care of this stuff for me?
A word of advice, the next time you feel overwhelmed and the Hallmark channel and bonbons are calling your name, maybe at least get the laundry done while you indulge. That way you can still say you did something. At least until we can afford to pay someone to do it for us.
