Peoria has temporarily shelved the thought of annexation of East Peoria to Peoria according to action taken in the Peoria city council Monday night. The committees were too busy with other important measures, such as, raising money by electric sign tax, rent of space underneath the sidewalks and tax on gasoline pumps.
East Peorians are resting easily on the whole matter. They considered the whole thing a huge joke and few were worried about it. Since the Peoria riverfront is lined with railroads, the deep waterway terminals will necessarily be on the Tazewell side of the river. It is not practical to cut long ditches back on the Peoria side, due to the railroad right-of-way...
