Here are the shows for the new season at Eastlight, inside East Peoria Community High School, 1401 E. Washington St., East Peoria.
The season kicks off with the musical "Annie." Shows are at 7:30 p.m. June 15-16 and 20 to 23, and at 2 p.m. June 17.
Based on the popular comic strip by Harold Gray, "Annie" has become a worldwide phenomenon and was the winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
Little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. She is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City orphanage that is run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. With the help of the other girls in the orphanage, Annie escapes to New York City.
In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan and even befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She finds a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
Eastlight is partnering with D & D Dance Company for this show-biz musical. "42nd Street" is a celebration of Broadway, Times Square and the people who make the magic of musical theater.
Aspiring chorus girl Peggy Sawyer comes to the big city from Allentown, Pa., and soon lands her first big job in the ensemble of a glitzy new Broadway show. But just before opening night, the leading lady breaks her ankle. Will Peggy be able to step in and become a star? The score is chock-full of Broadway standards, including “You’re Getting To Be A Habit With Me,” “Dames,” “We’re In the Money,” “Lullaby of Broadway,” “Shuffle Off to Buffalo” and “Forty-Second Street.”
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 3, 4 and 8 to 11, and 2 p.m. Aug. 5.
Poisoned apples. Glass slippers. Who needs them? Not Snow White and her posse of disenchanted princesses in the hilarious hit musical that is anything but Grimm.
Forget the princesses you think you know. When these royal renegades toss off their tiaras, this hilariously subversive, not-for-the-kiddies musical cleverly reveals what really happened ever after.
Directed by Mike Reams, "Disenchanted" is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7, 8 and 12 to 15 and 2 p.m. Sept. 9.
"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat"
Eastlight's 2018 season concludes with its annual production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and Dec. 5-8, and at 2 p.m. Dec. 2 and 9.
This is the 28th year for "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" on Eastlight's stage. This Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical tells the story of Joseph and his 11 brothers.
It was created as a soft rock fantasy that is fit for the entire family.
