The East Peoria Chamber of Commerce held its annual dinner on Feb. 27 at the Par-A-Dice ballroom.
Many of the business leaders from the area attended the dinner to support East Peoria's business community.
As it does each year, the chamber honored the Distinguished Citizen of the Year, Company of the Year, Green Company of the Year and Ambassador of the Year.
Michael Heisley, founder of Heico Companies, was the featured speaker at the event.
When Congressman Aaron Schock graduated from Richwoods High School, he had already completed 57 college credits, purchased real estate and had an established retirement account, which he opened when he was in seventh grade.
He was also a registered voter whose first experience casting a ballot eventually lead to his write-in election to the District 150 School Board, spurring his political career.
Beginning in the fall of 2012, East Peoria Community High School students will only need to pass two years of science to be eligible for graduation.
The change, approved at District 309’s Jan. 23 meeting, lessens the requirement by one year.
Denny Smith writes a blog for TimesNewspapers called "Hearing Things." Smith is a musician who grew up in Morton and now lives in Nashville, Tenn.
His blog addresses his life as a musician among other things.

Daniel Joseph Fahnstrom, 54, of East Peoria, died at 9:40 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, 2012 at his residence.
He was born Sept. 4, 1957, in Peoria to Richard Curtis and Wilhelmena Maxine (Tripp) Fahnstrom.
