SCOTT ALTMAN'S RETURN FROM SPACE landing party, 9:01 a.m. May 22, sponsored by The Tazewell County Museum & Educational Center in Pekin. Event at Kouri's with large screen televisions. Landing is scheduled at 10:41 a.m. May 22. Kouri's will open at 8:30 but the lift off time is 9:01 a.m.

Memorial service planned at church Sunday

A Memorial Day service honoring all veterans and military will be at noon Sunday. State Sen. David Koehler will present a flag that was flown over the White House to a veteran. The event will take place at Glad Tidings Assembly of God, 2201 E. Washington St., East Peoria.

• State Rep. Mike Smith (D-Canton) and State Rep. Jehan Gordon (D-Peoria) announced that they will hold a complimentary Labor Appreciation Breakfast for all members of the labor community on Saturday, May 2nd at 8:30 a.m. at the Carpenters Local 183 Union Hall, located at 2412 N. Main Street in East Peoria. For more information or to RSVP for the Labor Appreciation Breakfast, please contact Smith’s office at 353-6276 or Gordon’s office at 681-1992.

• TRAFFIC ALERT: Mile-long train expected in East Peoria today at 2 p.m. The train, which is carrying windmill blades, is only allowed to travel at 3 mph. Traffic at intersections is expected to be delayed for one hour along Washington and Camp streets.

• It's on! The fountain is back on at city hall and it's a welcome sight. It says: "Spring is here and summer is on the way!" There are also some beautiful tulips in bloom at city hall.

Eggs and Issues this Friday

The East Peoria Chamber of Commerce will host its Eggs and Issues Friday at the Par-A-Dice Hotel. The event starts at 7:30 a.m. and the cost is $12.

The speakers are going to be Jim McConoughey (Heartland Partnership) and Mayor Dave Mingus. Current events will be discussed by the two speakers.

• Easter Seals “World Full of Wishes” Fashion Show:

noon @ the Par-A-Dice Hotel Ballroom, presented by Bergner’s, and again in the evening at the Ladies Night Out beginning at 5:30 p.m. The boutique will include baked items, floral arrangements, original artwork by Easter Seals children, a variety of pet items, unique costume jewelry and children’s books. All proceeds benefit Easter Seals. Tickets are $30/per person for the luncheon, and $35/per person for Ladies Night Out.
