I would like to wish my wife, Jolene Scholl, a happy Mother’s Day this year. This is our third year of marriage together. I love her more and more every day. I am currently serving in the United States Army, 3rd Infantry Division. I am deployed to Afghanistan. This is our second deployment together.
Jolene amazes me with the way she holds our family together while I am away for training and deployments. She is an absolutely inspiring woman to everyone that meets her. She is always willing to lend a hand and go the extra mile to help others. She is among the strongest of all women, she is an Army wife! There is no amount of distance that could separate our hearts.
I married Jolene on March 12, 2007, and I deployed in May 2007 with the surge to Iraq. She worked and went to school full time, all while she was pregnant with our daughter. She held everything together and was able to take care of me by sending care packages and letters. She sent me 458 letters during our 15-month deployment. She was able to make all the arrangements to move to Savannah, Ga. and get things ready for my return.
In October 2009, I left to Afghanistan and she returned to East Peoria and is currently. She continues to go to school, to be a nurse and takes care of the children and dogs — all while taking care of me and our finances. I receive care packages on a regular basis as well as too many letters to read.
Deployments are tough, but when you have a strong woman by your side like Jolene it is so much easier.
Jolene can tell you that she lives a life of selfless service dedicated to her family. It takes a special woman to continue working, going to school, raising a family, and taking care of her soldier.
While all of this seems to be enough for any person to easily be overwhelmed with, Jolene continues to pack it all up and move wherever the Army asks us to just to start it all over. I could not be more proud of my wife and her service to our family and this great country. Our children could not have a better mother. I hope this Mother’s Day will truly be a great day for her, as she deserves a break. Thank you for everything sweetheart!
Love, Mike Scholl
