At Tuesday night’s meeting, the East Peoria City Council unanimously passed a resolution to appropriate an additional $250,000 for street maintenance.

The additional funding for street maintenance, which was not part of the city’s 2011 fiscal year budget, will go toward the repair and repaving of part of Liberty Drive, Freedom Trail, North Circuit Court, Cougar Lane and part of Barrington Lane.

Commissioner Daniel Decker said that although these streets were not included in the city’s street maintenance in 2011, the recent freezing and thawing from the winter and spring made the repairs a necessity.

“We got to the point where we needed to fix it,” Decker said.

The funding for the maintenance will be taken from the city’s gaming funds.

In other business, the city council:

• Approved a traffic signal master agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation.
This agreement will run from July 1, to June 30, 2021 and will make IDOT responsible for the maintenance of traffic signals that intersect with East Peoria streets.

• Approved a special outdoor sales and consumption permit to the Silver Bullet on North Main Street for its annual St. Jude fundraiser.

• Approved the reappointments of Deno Ori, Michael Kelley and Mark Hill to the East Peoria Zoning Board of Appeals. Former City Commissioner Jim Weber was appointed to fill the vacancy on the board.
