MAPLETON — A power outage disrupted operations at the Caterpillar Inc. Mapleton foundry Thursday morning, sending home first-shift employees.

The power outage, caused by an equipment failure, occurred at 11:19 a.m., Ameren Illinois spokeswoman Stacey Stockton-Shangraw said. It affected only the Caterpillar facility and not any neighboring ones, she said.

Employees at the foundry were sent home between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., Caterpillar spokeswoman Corrie Scott said.

Power was restored at 2:14 p.m., and second-shift employees were able to work Thursday evening.
