1929 - 2017

Arthur Lester Jameson, 88, of Pekin, passed away at 12:45 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2017, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.

Born Jan. 13, 1929, in Chicago to Andrew A. and Mabel (Munson) Jameson. He married Vietta Ann Bebout March 14, 1953, in Urbana. She died July 12, 2015, in Peoria.

He also was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are one son, Rick (Shelli) Jameson of Tremont; two daughters, Betsy (Larry) Fannin of Pekin and Nancy (Greg) Borum of Bartonville; three granddaughters, Lindsay Jameson of Galesburg, Lauren (Tyler) Etter of Bushnell and Leslie Jameson of Pekin; two great-granddaughters, Kara Etter and Mia Etter, both of Bushnell; one brother, Melvin Jameson of Franklin Park; and two sisters, Grace Lattanzio of Franklin Park and Marion Pugh of Arlington Heights.

He was a United States Marine Corps. veteran and began his service during World War II on July 12, 1946. He was a radar-radio repairman and was honorably discharged Jan. 30, 1948.

Art worked as a supervisor for Caterpillar Inc., retiring in 1989 after 35 years of service.

He enjoyed antique automobiles, restoring old cars, driving and was interested in all things relating to transportation. He was a member of the Early Ford V8 Club in Peoria, Mustang Club of America and the Prairie Capital Corvair Association in Springfield. He also was a member of Pekin Moose Family Center 916 and Pekin Elks Lodge 1271.

Art had attended Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin.

His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Dr. Joel P. Caitlin will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Inurnment will follow the service in Prairie Haven Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the United States Marine Corps and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
