It’s going down to the wire in the race for the Mid-Illini Conference volleyball championship.
Pekin (27-6, 11-2) will play at Limestone (28-3, 12-1) on Thursday in the final night of the conference season.
Limestone has clinched at least a share of the Mid-Illini title. If the Dragons can beat the Rockets and avenge a Sept. 26 loss at home to Limestone, the teams would tie for the conference championship.
A Limestone win over Pekin gives the Rockets an outright Mid-Illini title.
Metamora (28-6, 11-2) also is in the mix.
If the Redbirds can beat East Peoria on Thursday and Pekin beats Limestone, then Pekin, Limestone and Metamora would share the Mid-Illini championship.
Defending conference champion Pekin kept its hopes alive for another Mid-Illini title Tuesday when it defeated Metamora 25-19, 25-23 on Senior Night at Hawkins Gym.
The Dragons rallied in both sets to beat the Redbirds after losing to them Sept. 21 at Metamora.
Metamora led 14-11 in the first set Tuesday before the Dragons scored 13 of the next 16 points to build a lead before eventually winning.
Pekin faced a 22-16 deficit in the second set before scoring nine of the final 10 points.
Pekin senior star Hannah Thompson, playing her final match at home, had 15 kills and 12 digs. Molly Flannigan and Brooke Sherwood each dished out nine assists for the Dragons, and Anna McGovern had 1.5 blocks.
Limestone also was a winner Tuesday, beating conference rival Dunlap 25-14, 25-11.
