Exposure to the day’s frigid cold apparently was not what killed a Pekin man whose body was found Thursday near the UAW Senior Citizens Center.

Jacob Sutton, 32, “was dressed for the cold” and had been seen walking “a very short time before” he died for still-undetermined reasons behind a shed near the building at 444 S. Parkway Drive, Tazewell County Chief Deputy Coroner Dan Bonnette said Friday.

An autopsy conducted Friday stated Sutton’s cause of death was pending a toxicology report that would reveal the presence of alcohol, drugs or both in his system, Bonnette said.

The autopsy revealed no signs of trauma or foul play. It would have detected signs that exposure played a role in the death, Bonnette said.
