EUREKA — A Eureka man accused of the 1986 slaying of a 13-year-old girl has been extradited to face murder charges in Washington state.

Robert Washburn, 60, was picked up Wednesday morning at the Woodford County Jail by officials from Tacoma, Wash.

He had been in the county jail since his arrest May 10 in Eureka.

Authorities in Tacoma have said Washburn was approached in March 2017 to provide a voluntary sample of his DNA, which was then sent to a private lab. After police were notified of a DNA match, Washburn was arrested at his apartment in the Woodridge Apartment Complex.

Jennifer Bastian, 13, disappeared in August 1986 while riding her bike. Wasbburn was living in the Tacoma area at the time. Her body was found in a wooded area of a park in Tacoma 24 days after she vanished. She had been sexually assaulted and strangled.

Washburn was arrested earlier this month at his apartment in Eureka.
