Sam Mayberry did it all this school year at Carl Sandberg College.

Besides playing in three sports, the Pekin High School grad’s perfect 4.0 grade-point average earned her a spot on the National Junior College Athletic Association All-Academic First Team for 2017-2018.

Mayberry also was Academic All-Arrowhead Conference. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete needed to have a 3.0 grade-point average and earn a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester.

Volleyball was Mayberry’s main sport at Carl Sandberg, located in Galesburg.

In 39 matches (128 sets) last fall, she had 143 kills, averaging 1.12 kills per set. Her 80 total blocks and 59 solo blocks were team highs.

She was a starter on Carl Sandberg’s NJCAA Division II regional champion team that played in the national tournament for the first time in program history.

Mayberry saw action in 24 basketball games during the winter and 19 softball games this spring. She scored 10 runs in 47 plate appearances in softball.
