Prosecution resumed Monday against the son of a former Pekin City Council member accused of stealing and damaging city property.

Theodore Golden, 35, chose not to participate in Tazewell County’s Veterans Court, a route by which his charges could’ve been dismissed if he met the specialty court’s conditions that include counseling.

He was given that option last January. On Monday, the process leading to a trial date resumed.

Golden, son of former Councilman Tim Golden, was charged in 2016 with one felony count each of theft and criminal damage to city property. He acknowledged digging up and disposing of gravel installed to replace sidewalk outside the home he and his father shared that August, according to a prosecutor’s court affidavit.

Golden said he did so because the gravel, installed by a city-hired work crew, did not meet city specifications, the affidavit stated.

He’s next due in court on Sept. 13.
