EAST PEORIA — The dining and retail in the Levee District appears poised for expansion beyond its original boundaries.

Cullinan Properties announced Tuesday that it plans to demolish a building adjacent to the current district at 134 Center St., west of Costco, to allow for additional growth in the area.

The nearly 7,500-square-foot building, once home to LaConte Auto Repairs, has been owned by Cullinan Properties since the early 2000s to allow for additional growth.

“The Levee District area has really transformed since being home to where Caterpillar’s oldest factories once stood,” Christopher M. West, Cullinan Properties CEO, said in a prepared statement. “Not only has the Levee District been successful, it has also contributed to additional spin off development in the area. Clearing the land is the best option to make way for exciting complementary uses.”

The release did not immediately specify what potential development could be located there.
