EAST PEORIA — An East Peoria police officer has been put on administrative leave while Illinois State Police investigate the apparent suicide by a woman at his home with his gun, East Peoria Police Chief Dick Ganschow said.
Lisa Simmons, 38, of Morton died Monday, apparently by pulling the trigger of the officer’s service revolver, Ganschow said.
“It appears to be a suicide,” Ganschow said.
Ganschow said he was limited in what information he could release, as his department immediately handed the investigation to state police. Further information was not immediately available from that agency.
However, Ganschow said a “domestic situation” was not involved in the death — “not to my knowledge.”
Ganschow declined to release the name of the officer or his address. The officer has been put on paid administrative leave during the investigation “just out of an abundance of caution, as we would do after any traumatic event.”
