WASHINGTON — Police have targeted a suspect in a Sept. 11 home invasion that claimed a life Wednesday.

Jason T. Pownall, 44, was pronounced dead at 12:36 p.m. Wednesday at OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center, where he had been since the crime, said Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood. An autopsy Thursday morning indicated Pownall suffered severe blunt force head injuries and associated complications from that trauma, Harwood said.

East Peoria police have said little about the circumstances of the home invasion, which occurred at Pownhall's residence in the 100 block of Albert Street. The address is in a section of Sunnyland that carries a Washington mailing address, yet is policed by East Peoria.

Also hurt in the crime was a 35-year-old woman who lives at the same address. Her injuries were minor. Police have not released her name.

The home invasion occurred at 5:18 a.m. Sept. 11. East Peoria Police Chief Dick Ganschow declined to reveal many details of the crime, including the weapon used to attack Pownall. Ganschow said he does not want to jeopardize the investigation, as detectives have narrowed their focus to a particular suspect.

However, he did say that a car was stolen from the residence. It was later recovered in South Peoria.
