The Pekin boys golf team advanced to the sectionals for the second straight season after finishing in third place at the Class 3A Bradley-Bourbonnais Regional on Tuesday afternoon.

The Dragons posted a 321 total at Kankakee Elks Country Club behind an even-par 72 from sophomore Mason Minkel. Minkel held off a 1-over 73 from Normal U-High’s Brevin Knight to earn medalist honors.

Junior Justin Taphorn (80), senior Ethan Sullivan (83) and sophomore Cooper Theleritis (86) rounded out the scoring for Pekin.

Normal U-high won the regional with 302, while Normal Community (305) finished in second.

The Dragons advance to the Edwardsville Sectional, which will be played at Sunset Hills Country Club next Monday.

 

Class 2A

Dunlap and Peoria Richwoods both advanced to the sectionals after finishing in the top three at the Class 2A Monmouth-Roseville Regional.

Mid-Illini Conference champion Dunlap posted a 322 total to finish in second place, while Richwoods (323) placed third at the par-71 Gibson Woods Golf Course.

The Eagles were led by senior Matt Leist, who shot 76 to tie for third place with Metamora senior Colten Kahler in the individual standings.

The Knights were led by senior Peyton Perez, who shot 74 to finish in second place, while teammate Caleb Stevenson, a senior, shot 77 to tie for fifth.

Rock Island Alleman carded 312 to win the regional behind a 2-over-par 73 be medalist Ryan Rochholz.

Illinois Valley Central seniors Hunter Mettille (78) and Chase Jacobson (79) advanced as individuals.

All qualifying teams and individuals advance to the Lincoln Sectional at Lincoln Elks next Monday.

 

Class 1A

Tremont, Eureka and Peoria Christian each found a spot in the sectionals after finished in the top three at the Class 1A Illini Central Regional.

The Turks won with a 352 team total, while the Hornets (357) and the Chargers (368) finished second and third in the team standings at Country Hills Golf Course.

Peoria Christian senior Cole Cox fired a 2-under-par 70 to earn medalist honors.

Tremont seniors Tim Rice and Joel Wockley each shot 74 to lead the team. Eureka was led by junior Zac Messer (85).

Peoria Heights senior Trevor Heath (81) and Illini Bluffs seniors Jack Borland (85) and Braden Bruninga (93) advanced as individuals.

Tremont, Eureka and Peoria Christian and qualifying individuals move on to the Aledo Sectional at Hawthorne Ridge Golf Course next Monday.

 

ELSEWHERE: Brimfield sophomore Jeremy Ott shot 1-under-par 71 to earn medalist honors in the Class 1A Orion regional at Valley View Golf Course in Cambridge. Ott advanced to the Aledo Sectional at Hawthorne Ridge Golf Course next Monday.
