PEORIA — Three men were arrested after police responded to a shoplifting in progress at J.C. Penney in Northwoods Mall on Wednesday, according to a Peoria police report.
The men — Craig D. Johnson, 22; Willie L. Peyton, Jr., 26; and Ciddrick J. Johnson, 26 — are suspected of taking $1,420 worth of athletic clothing, the report said.
The suspects were met by officers as they left the store. Craig Johnson allegedly sprinted through the parking lot but was soon caught, handcuffed and placed in a squad car, the report said. The other two suspects were apprehended at the door, the report said.
Later, in the loss prevention room at the store, Ciddrick Johnson allegedly became angry and slammed his forehead into the wall, making a softball-sized hole in the wall. He later told police he had no intention of stealing and was with the other two men because they are family. He asked officers to watch the video footage to prove his point. The other two did not make a statement.
The footage showed the men shopping in the athletic department, moving items to the rear racks of the department. One is seen moving a bag to the rear rack, and appears to be trying to remove the security tab on the bag, the report said.
All three men were transported to the Peoria County Jail on the charge of retail theft.
