If Rep. Keith Sommer is to represent the newly-redrawn 88th District after 2012, he will have to defeat a primary challenger in addition to a potential Democrat in the general election.
Steve Perry, a mass communications professor at Illinois State University and member of the District 87 School Board, has officially thrown his hat in the ring to challenge Sommer for the legislative district seat.
“I don’t think my running makes a statement (about the job Sommer has done,” Perry said Aug. 2. “I think that voters to go the polling booth and are very disappointed when they only see one name on position after position.
East Peoria’s City Council will maintain a familiar look after the results from Tuesday’s consolidated election.
Daniel Decker, Gary Densberger and Tim Jeffers, the three incumbent city commissioners seeking reelection, were chosen to serve another term. Newcomer Chad Joos was elected to serve as the city’s fourth commissioner. The fourth current city councilman, Jim Weber, did not seek reelection.
“(The new council) will continue to do good things for the city that they have been doing for the past four years,” East Peoria Mayor Dave Mingus said on Tuesday night.
Information about all eight candidates running for the East Peoria City Council. Voters are able to vote for four of the eight candidates.
After the April 5 consolidated election, East Peoria’s District 86 school board will have a significantly different makeup.
Of the four candidates running for the three open seats on the school board, only one is an incumbent, which guarantees that there will be at least two new members of the school board.
Sara Sparkman, Donald Bell, Chad Kramer and Dennis Vandiver are the four candidates that will be on the ballot on April 5 for the school board.
