A 16-year-old female was cited for driving without a valid driver’s license, driving after 11 p.m. and improper lane usage after her involvement in a fatal accident Saturday night.

The 16 year old was driving a Ford Mustang when it collided with a motorcycle at the intersection of East Washington Street and Campus Avenue shortly after 11:30 p.m., according to the East Peoria Police Department.

The impact forced Angela King, 43, and her husband Dale King, 44, both of 126 Ravine St., East Peoria, off their motorcycle and onto the roadway, according to police.

Angela King, the passenger of the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:05 a.m. Sunday by the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office. Dale King, the driver, was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, according to police.

On Tuesday, Dale King remained in “serious condition” at the hospital, according to Shelli Dankoff, spokeswoman at OSF.

The 16-year-old driver and passenger were not injured.

The 16-year-old driver was cited for driving without a valid driver’s license because of the new Graduated Driver License law, according to Detective Sgt. Shannon Swearingen.

“At 11 p.m., the driver’s license becomes invalid (for a person 16 to 18 years old),” he said.

Whether or not cell phone use was a contributing factor of the crash, Swearingen said, “That’s part of the investigation.”

Additional details of the crash were not available on Tuesday.

The East Peoria Police and the Illinois State Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident.

The area of East Washington Street where the accident occurred was shut down until 6:15 a.m.
Sunday.
