Tenth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Richard Grawey on Friday sentenced a sex offender to probation and work release for 14 days.

Brett M. Cook, 18, of 121 Elm Ridge Circle, East Peoria, was charged in June with aggravated criminal sexual assault/bodily harm, a Class X felony, and criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony, for sexually assaulting the victim, according to Tazewell County Court records.

In a plea agreement Friday, the charges were amended. Grawey reviewed a pre-trial investigation and files for other cases pending against Cook. Cook was given credit for 76 days served in the Tazewell County Justice Center.

In June 2009, the victim’s father contacted Washington police to tell them he thought Cook had sexually assaulted his daughter. The 17-year-old victim told police officers that she was at a friend’s house on June 5 where Cook allegedly raped her.

Police officers saw bruises to her cheek, bicep and calf. A sexual assault examination was conducted that indicated the girl may have been sexually assaulted, court records said.

Police officers went to the apartment where the sexual assault occurred and spoke with a resident there. The woman said she had left for about 20 minutes and that when she returned the victim ran out of the bedroom and into the bathroom. The resident said Cook was in the bedroom when she came home and he quickly left the apartment, court records said.

The resident of the apartment spoke to the victim and was told by the victim that she was in pain and that she had been raped.
