Springfield— Joined by more than 120 friends and family, Mike Unes was sworn-in on Wednesday, Jan. 12 to become the new state representative of the 91st District.

“Reciting the oath of office today was not only an exciting experience, but also a humbling one to know I have so much support in the 91st District. The residents have put their faith in me, and I am more than ready to begin my duties as their state representative, always putting their best interest first in getting our state back on track,” Unes said.

Unes, who will serve as a full-time legislator, was elected as state representative in November. A former East Peoria City Councilman, Unes defeated 16-year incumbent Rep. Mike Smith of Canton.

“Throughout my campaign, I knocked on doors and heard the concerns of the residents of the district. Now I am ready to take those concerns to Springfield.

I will work hard every day in this position, and my top priority is to provide the best level of constituent service possible,” Unes said.

As a freshman legislator, Unes said he plans to take on key issues such as fiscal responsibility, attracting employers back to Illinois and reforming state government ethics.
