Authorities make arrest in connection with homicide in Pekin

Authorities Have identified the body discovered under a bridge in Pekin on Thursday as that  of a homeless man and say that a suspect is being held in custody for his slaying.

Michael C. Marshall, 55, was found just before 9 p.m. beneath the McNaughton Bridge, which carries Illinois Route 9 traffic over the Illinois River.

An autopsy performed Friday morning indicated Marshall died of blunt force trauma to the head and neck due to an assault.

Jonathan Tandy, 30, also homeless, was booked into the Tazewell County Jail on a charge of aggravated battery in connection with Marshall's death. He is expected to appear before a judge during the next bonding court session at 9 a.m. Sunday, when formal charges could be filed.
