Charles W. Taylor, 84, of Morton, formerly of East Peoria, died at 12:02 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at Heartland Manor Care of Peoria. 

Born Oct. 8, 1925, in Kennett, Mo., to Robert L. and Vestil Burdette Taylor, he married Marjorie C. Uhlmann Oct. 13, 1946, in Ava, Mo.  She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Nancy (Edward) Betts of Chillicothe; one brother, Olis B. (Ann) Taylor; three grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.

Preceding him in death were a brother, and in July 2009, his son, Ronald D. Taylor.

He worked at Caterpillar in East Peoria where he stayed for 30 years until his retirement in June 1981.

He was baptized at 8 years old and was a member of First United Methodist Church in East Peoria for more than 52 years. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge.

Services were Saturday at First United Methodist Church in East Peoria.  The Rev. Mary Arnold officiated. Cremation was accorded.  Burial will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Mo., at a later date. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of East Peoria.
