Matthew E. Thar, 46, of East Peoria, formerly of Washington, died at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at his home.
He was born Nov. 7, 1963, in Peoria to Richard and Sarah “Sally” Curtis Thar.
Among those surviving are his mother, Sally of East Peoria; four sisters, Becky (Mark) Pudik of Washington, Linda (Michael) Walwer of Springfield, Carol (Dan) Gano of Ballwin, Mo., and Adele (John) Zieser of West Des Moines, Iowa; and two brothers, Richard Thar of Dallas and Paul (Ileen) Thar of Austin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Thar, who died in March 1995.
He had been a mortgage banker and had also owned and managed Mortgage Equity Trust Inc. of Dallas. He last worked for United Recovery Systems of Tulsa, Okla., as a mortgage specialist.
He was a graduate of St. Patrick’s School and Washington Community High School graduating in 1981.
He then earned a degree in communication and marketing from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Mason-White Funeral Home. The Rev. Joseph Donton will officiate. A memorial visitation will be held prior to the service, starting at 5 p.m. Private burial of ashes will occur later in the family plot at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
