Events that bring family and friends together are always a good thing. And events that do this plus bring money back into the community, or just show community pride, are even better.

August is just around the corner, and it is chock-full of events that will not only bring family and friends together but will also give East Peoria a chance to shine.

Aug. 7 is the fifth annual Springfield Road Community Sale, which starts at the foot of Springfield and Washington Road and continues into Groveland, making it over 8 miles long.

That same week, from Aug. 6 through 14, Eastlight Theatre will present “All Shook Up,” a musical combining a story based on Shakespear’s “’Twelfth Night” and the music of Elvis Presley.

It’s at events like these and many others that the best family bonding occurs.

Summer time gives families more of an opportunity than any other season to spend time together other than in front of the television set.

Not only are families able to bond over exciting events in town, it’s good for people to get out and get some exercise. After being cooped up in an office all week, many people gladly welcome some time outdoors to stretch their legs and get some sun.

Photos can say a lot, but the experience says a lot more. Enjoying time with family and friends is something no one should overlook or take for granted.

Attending special events like a community sale or a muscial at Eastlight Theatre gives people a chance to give back to their community, whether they are aware of it or not.

Bringing events to the area is always a good way to get people together and to get money back into the small-town economy.

So, take the time you have and the events your community offers you and enjoy yourself.
