1. Attend the groundbreaking in Sunnyland Gov. Pat Quinn will make a stop in Sunnyland on Monday for the completion of the Sunnyland portion of the Illinois Route 8 reconstruction project. It would be a great way to get in contact with city, county, state and federal leaders before the November elections.
2. Commend city employees for their service Berta Dinkins, city clerk, will retire Oct. 1 after 42 years with the city. Forty-two years is an amazing amount of time to spend at any job. Her career is a perfect example of dedication to the city.
3. Go walk on the city’s hiking and biking trail On Aug. 24, the city council approved extending the city’s hiking and biking trail along Camp Street creating a 3-mile recreational loop. The city should be commended on their efforts to continue the trails throughout town.
4. Attend the first football game of the season Show school spirit and attend East Peoria Community High School’s first football game of the season on Friday night at EastSide Centre. They take on Geneseo, and they need crowd support!
5. Take advantage of Labor Day weekend by spending time with family Labor day is next weekend, and family should come first. Enjoy that day off with a relaxing barbecue with your family.
