The end of one year and the beginning of a new one is a great time for all to reflect — not only for us personally — but also professionally. It is a time for city and community leaders to reflect as well.
In this moment, it is natural for people to think about the past — where they have been and what they have accomplished. They may reflect on past mistakes as well.

But a new year is a fresh slate. It is a time to move forward.

A new year offers exciting possibilities. No one knows what the days of 2010 will bring.

While thinking of the year as a blank canvas is mysterious and alluring, it could also be overwhelming, so it is a good idea for us to have some goals. This requires planning. Whether the goals are personal or professional, a plan must come first.

Regarding ongoing city projects, it is evident much planning occurred beforehand.
In East Peoria, the coming year will bring further development of the Downtown 2010 project, with the first buildings to begin taking shape; the new addition at East Peoria Community High School will be completed by the end of the summer; a major renovation will be completed at Central Junior High School early this year; and the Route 8 widening project in Sunnyland should be done at the end of the year.

These projects are major, and they prove that accomplishment begins with a plan.
