This past week has produced some lovely days — a preview of spring. The snow is melting and birds are singing. People were seen riding motorcycles over the weekend and walking outside without a coat.
It is a liberating feeling to emerge from our “hibernating period” because, surely, most people have cabin fever.
There are a couple of negatives about the warmer weather: one is the muddy mess, and two is the litter that is revealed when the snow melts, uncovering certain unsightly areas.
Take the time to make sure your yard, ditch and street in front of your home are free of trash. It will only take a few minutes to pick up soda bottles, papers and anything else that has been under the snow all winter.
It is important to keep pride in the neighborhood and the community in which one lives.
Clean streets and yards keep the values of homes steady.
Picking up litter is a small step to keep community pride strong in East Peoria.
Then, in spring, we can take it another step farther by keeping our homes maintained, such as cleaning windows, fixing gutters, trimming bushes and more.
Not only will maintaining your property be beneficial for you, your neighbors will appreciate it as well.
