Last week, police arrested 11 juveniles for curfew, a larger number than normal.
This means that juveniles, 16 and younger, were out past 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday or past midnight Friday or Saturday.
There are not many good reasons for youth to be out at these hours, unless there is an emergency of some sort.
Maybe these arrests occurred because youth are feeling the pinch of the end of summer and back-to-school time this week.
However, they violated a city ordinance and received a citation to appear in court. East Peoria Police Chief Ed Papis said they will receive either a fine and/or court supervision.
“Nothing good can be derived with kids being out after curfew,” Papis said.
When youth are out past curfew, do their parents know? If they don’t, they should and they should care.
“Parents need to know where their kids are at,” Papis said.
Teens become adults soon enough. They can wait to stay out past curfew.
