Some of the area's top swimmers went head-to-head last week when the Dunlap Co-op hosted the Metamora Co-op and the Washington Co-op in a tri meet.

The 50 freestyle event featured two of the top freshmen in the area in Dunlap's Elizabeth Sowards and Metamora's Anna Peplowski, who won the event with her best time of the season at 24.48 seconds. Sowards was second in :24.95, short of her Journal Star area-best :23.74.

Seniors Emma Theobald of Dunlap and Noelle Peplowski of Metamora, the two reigning Journal Star Girls Co-Swimmers of the Year, then met in the 100 breaststroke.

Noelle Peplowski, who won the state breaststroke title in 2014 as a freshman, won the race by more than two seconds with a time of 1:05.10. Theobald was second in 1:07.53. Noelle Peplowski has the area's beat time in the event at 1:03.83.

Anna Peplowski also won the 100 backstroke in 1:00.28, while her older sister won the 200 IM in 2:06.94. The Peplowski sisters also were on the winning 200 medley relay team with Emmie Brockhouse and Brooke McCormick.

But Dunlap won the meet with 147 points to 118 for Metamora and 64 for Washington.
