Lucas Joseph led the East Peoria wrestling team to an 11th-place finish at the Quincy Invitational.

The 220-pound Raider junior won the title over the weekend in the 43rd annual two-day event.

The tournament championship is the third of the season for Joseph, the No. 4-ranked wrestler in 220 in the Jan. 11 Illinois Matmen Class 2A individual state ratings.

He also placed first at the Titan Invitational Dec. 3 and the Metamora Holiday Tournament two weeks later.

East Peoria 120 entrant Casey McWhirter placed fourth.

The Raiders were credited with 108 points. Starting with eighth-place Lincoln, there were five teams bunched within 10 points of each other.

Mediapolis (Iowa) outscored Alton by 14 points, 210-196, for the overall crown in a 29-team field.

Trying to swat the Hornets: East Peoria will try to knock off highly-acclaimed Eureka Thursday in Woodford County.

The Hornets were No. 11 last week in Illinois Matmen’s 1A team state rankings.

Also, the Raiders will make-up a key Mid-Illini Conference triangular in Metamora Jan. 25 that also features Limestone. The season’s first snowfall Jan. 12 caused the original date to be postponed.
