The East Peoria boys golf team placed 20th in the competitive Raider/Redbird Classic Aug. 17 at Weibring Golf Club.

Newcomer Joe Kelch was the lone Raider below 90 with an 89 in the season opener at the Normal course which is the home of the Illinois State University men’s and women’s golf teams.

Ross Johnson had a 93 and Robbie Rogers and Ryan Johnson 99s at the par-71 layout.

East Peoria outplayed Charleston and PORTA in a 22-team field.

In a fifth-man tiebreaker, Mahomet-Seymour edged Machesney Park Harlem for the championship.

Coyote Creek Classic
The Raiders were 19th Saturday in Bartonville, but it was noteworthy the two teams they beat.

With a 385, East Peoria outperformed Mid-Illini Conference rivals Canton and Metamora, which finished last.

Kelch again was the Raider leader with a 92 at the difficult par-72 course.

Tyler Sheppard carded a 96, Johnson a 98 and Casey McWhirter a 99.

St. Charles East held off Notre Dame by five strokes, 298-303, to win the team title.
