East Peoria trounced visiting Kewanee to win its first girls tennis match of the season.

The Raiders swept the Boilermakers in doubles as part of a 7-2 non-conference victory Aug. 24 at Illinois Central College.

The tandems of Nicki Alwan/Caylee Nabors (6-2, 6-0), Paige Ashley/Nicole Montgomery (6-2, 6-0) and Emily Crim/Kari Hoffman (6-0, 6-0) all triumphed on their home court.

East Peoria won each of the top-three pairings in singles as Alwan (6-0, 6-0), Nabors (6-3, 6-3) and Ashley (6-1, 6-1) each delivered solid performances.

Montgomery (6-0, 6-4) also was a straight-sets winner in singles.

The Raiders fell to the three-time defending Mid-Illini Conference champions Thursday.

Montgomery prevented a Redbird shutout with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 win in No. 6 singles.

Guests Alwan and Nabors put up the biggest fight in doubles before losing, 3-6, 2-6.

East Peoria actually is 0-1 in the M-I entering a Tuesday dual at Limestone.

The Oct. 5 contest at Washington now will serve as the conference result between the schools instead of the Aug. 23 dual.
