Excellent effort in Quincy: The East Peoria varsity wrestling team landed ninth place Saturday in a field of 22 teams in the two-day Quincy Invitational despite taking only 10 grapplers. Three Raiders placed in the top five. Over the weekend, the East Peoria wrestling team competed at the Quincy Invitational and took ninth place out of 22 teams.

The Raiders ascended into the top 10 despite only taking 10 wrestlers for the varsity tournament.

Senior Cody Largent went 4-0 to take first place in 119 pounds.

Nate Joseph, also a senior, finished 4-0 and won the title in 215.

Largent and Joseph both won their third championships of the season, following first-place awards at Chatham Glenwood (Dec. 5) and Metamora (Dec. 19).

Freshman Jeremy Gumm went 4-2 and garnered fifth place in 140.

Conrad Bray, Lucas Joseph and Billy Newport all won four matches as well for East Peoria.

Nick Philyaw won three times, and Raiders Austin Harper and Jesus Rivera both prevailed twice.

Joe Warren also was victorious in a match.

East Peoria travels to Morton tomorrow for a rescheduled Mid-Illini Conference dual with the Potters.
