Three-time defending Mid-Illini Conference champion Washington was too much for the East Peoria boys golf team Aug. 24.

The Panthers rolled to a 148-176 win at Quail Meadows Golf Course in the opener for both teams.

Ross Johnson’s one-over-par 37 on the front nine led the Raiders on their home course.

Joe Kelch and Tyler Sheppard had 45s, while Robbie Rogers carded a 49 for East Peoria.

The Raider junior varsity also lost to Washington, 163-201.

EP 185, Metamora 186
The Raiders won their first conference match since 2008 by nipping the Redbirds by a stroke Thursday.

East Peoria evened its M-I record as Johnson and Kelch were co-medalists with 45s on the back nine at Snag Creek Golf Course.

One shot back with a 46 was Brad Long. Rounding out the Raiders’ effort was Rogers with a 49.

East Peoria fell, 188-201, in the JV portion in Washburn.

Raider Bridget Wolff was the lone Raider below 50 with a 49 in a 203-219 Mid-Illini Conference setback.

Alexa Grant (53) and Lauren Bernard (57) both were below 60 on the par-35 front nine in Secor.

Morgan Ciota completed East Peoria’s scoring with a 60.

The Redbirds forged a first-place M-I tie with Morton after the first week following a road win Thursday.

Grant topped the Raiders this time with a 50 on the par-36 back nine at Quail Meadows Golf Course.

Wolff followed with a 57 and Bernard was only one shot behind with a 58.

Riley Spokely contributed for the first time for East Peoria with a 64.
